John was an eight century Syrian Orthodox monk and abbot. These are daily excerpts from his two main writings- his Letters and his unpublished Discourses. John is an essentially unknown writer in the Christian world. However, I consider him the greatest of them all. Many showed the way, some had glimpses of the sea, but John swam in its waters...
