Just as there is no inquiring by corporeal sight about the essence of fire, because the activity of its essence is seen, though that is not its essence but one is persuaded by its activity that the true essence is seen, so the seers of God's Glory are fully assured without inquiry that they are seeing the Essence of him who is concealed from all and are observing him, moved by a sweet and gentle impulse in tranquil joy, and stirred by serene love joined with wonder. (D21)

     I know the Father in his Christ, but the Son I perceive through the Spirit. For outside of Him I have neither stability, nor movement, nor life, nor sensation. And when I am consumed by wonder, I see them as one lamp and by its reflection I am illuminated. Therefore I marvel at myself and rejoice spiritually that the Source of Life be found in me. This is the summing up of the incorporeal world. (L27) 

     These precious pearls are gathered to be stored in the treasuries of his mind by the merchant who is intimate with prayer. For truly he swims in the sea of life and cleanses himself in the mighty floods, to be purified and beautified so as to become a garment of purple for Christ the eternal king. This is the strenuous diver captivated with desire for the sea of his washing. Sweet it is to him to never come out of it. Blessed are you who circle in the waves of light and on the wings of the Holy Spirit and are enclosed in the all encompassing deep, whose limit is unsearchable.

     May your love, my Lord, cause me to be loosened from the world without resistance, and may pains and disease not constrain me to go out from it involuntarily. Because the one whose intellect is set free from it, the angels compel to remain in the world until his time comes. And the one who is ensnared by it, they lead from the world in torment and afflictions. How pleasant is the departure of your friends to You, O Good One! But how hard is the setting out from the world for all its own, because your friends depart towards their inheritance and these are deprived of what is theirs. (L24) 

     Before everything and in everything, this is what I caution you about: do not be dead to Life, that is, may your heart never be empty of the remembrance of your Lord. 

     O Beauty, which adorns all the Powers on High whose faces are always inflamed with the light of your glory through the intensity of the merciful radiance, and to which they are joined by supernal love: yes, my Lord, I beg you and entreat your mercy, make the light of your Holy Trinity shine in my soul, this light with which the intensity of its reflections the troops of the enemy are defeated. Then their eyes will be scorched from looking towards it, and with fear and trembling they will return to their darkened place, deprived of the radiance of eternal life.  

     The sight of that man alone is sufficient to answer all the requests of suppliants and not praying a prayer on their behalf, only in compassion stirred for all those in need, and the Spirit in him heals their diseases if they are seeking a cure for bodily diseases or release from sins; or if they are requesting healing for their souls; or if they are longing for the conversion of their mind to the knowledge of God; or if they are desiring the satisfying of their bodily needs. (D19) 

        Consider this mystery, my brother, make supplication to him that you may find its interpretation in your soul. When the Spirit of the Son dwells in a man he speaks in him as with the Son of God to the Father, with no human infirmity present, nor anything of the Adamite state in that hour. There is found in him no prayer nor petition, nor intercession, nor thoughts, nor impulses, nor life of human origin, nor recollection of things of this life or of things to come; but he is united completely with the Spirit of the Son who is speaking in him. (D19)

     Someone told me that while he was by himself speaking to the Spirit of God he said silently: Oh life of my soul, the face of my soul is resplendent in the beauty of thy Glory, and heaven and earth are entirely covered by its brightness, the deeps are illuminated by the blaze of thy light, and everything is taken away from before its face, and it has become as though non-existent; for it is united with thine incomprehensibility in an end without ending, so that the senses have been stilled into inactivity and the intellect into motionlessness. (D18) 

      While I was proceeding on the way of mercy, the Beloved met me and led me. He walked a little in front of me and I was following behind him. He turned his face toward me and my mind was captivated. From that time I was existing without mind as non-existing, without perception, without vision, without hearing, but in amazement and great stillness. (L16)

     Sanctify your soul by the remembrance of Him. Adorn yourself by gazing on Him. Unite yourself with Him in the fire of His love: by this He shows himself to you and gladdens you by the sight of Him. This love makes Him dwell in your soul with his Father and his Spirit. This love makes you yourself a vision of his majesty and on all sides you will see clearly. By this love you will tread upon the depths, and in his light you will behold the highest heavens. This love will utter in you the mysteries of the Spirit, and will reveal to you the uncreated light and show you how to walk in it. By this love all which is in you will radiantly shine forth, and all which is before you will give great light. (L15)

      (On repentance) The seeds of thorns which Satan sowed in our land and carefully made to grow for many years: in one day repentance burns and purifies the field that it might yield fruits a hundredfold from the seed of the Plowman who is Christ. The ramparts which Satan took a long time to build to enclose the captives bound in darkness: for a brief moment repentance breathes on them and they are cast down and the light shines out on the face of those who sit in darkness.

      From dark beings she forms luminous ones. (L43) 

      Be, my brother, a fish swimming and circling in the waves of waters overflowing from the Majesty. And in its holy depths hide yourself from the accursed fishers who stay at its borders; fearsome and waiting for the prey to go out; for they are not able to fish from it, afraid to enter it lest they die. (L15)
